I ran everything on my own hardware for a week. Here is the bill. $61 in electricity. Nine hours of setup and babysitting. It replaced $23 of API spend. On the money alone that is a bad trade, and most posts would stop there. The useful finding is narrower: bulk transcription won, and won clearly. Everything else lost. If you are considering the move, measure the specific workload first. "Local is cheaper" is true about one job at a time, not about a stack.

Two of them needed me — the assessment questions were confidently wrong, which is the failure mode worth watching for. The rest held up.
